Auvergne and Cantal

Where do you find us? The Auvergne, in particular the Cantal, is a one of the last hidden treasures of France. It is located between the well known Dordogne and the Ardeche. It's the eastern part of the Central Massif. Once volcanic eruptions had created the mountains, erosion started to soften them and shaped a stunning variety of landscapes. You will see mountains like the Puy de Dome and the Puy Sancy, enjoy stunning views of highlands, forests uitgestrekte, mellow pastures, cols, and now and then little villages and so-called hameaus (2-5 houses grouped together). The Auvergne has almost the size of The Netherlands, counts only 1,3 miljon inhabitants, consists of 4 so-called departments, the Cantal (number 15 or "le quinze"), with its capital Aurillac, the Allier (03), the Puy de Dome (63),and the Haute Loire (43) with its famous cathedral in the beautifull capital le Puy en Velay. The capital of the Auvergne is Clermont-Ferrand, one of the largest villages of France.
