To do or just nicely not to do
You can do all your regular shopping at Riom-es-Montagnes, at 7 kilometers from your cottage. A typical french village with amongst others two supermarkets, five boulangeries (try them all and compare their "croissants"!), fromagerie, pharmacy, tourist office, a hotel, restaurants, cafes. Once every two weeks there's a marktet on wednesday. You will find restaurants in the area which serve excellent quality food, at affordable prizes. You may also enjoy the "fermes auberges" (menu of the day at the farm).

Catch words for the Cantal are: simplicity, authenticity, pureness, reflexion. Lovers of nature will feel at home the year around. Lovers of silence will be disturbed by owls and woodpeckers.
Enjoy ponds, fishing spots, hiking, riding, mountain biking, mushing, climbing, paragliding, adventure trails orienteering courses, nordic walking, sports facilities (tennis), wintersports, and you might want to walk with a donkey!
In the summer there are plenty of smallscale events like regional markets and various musicfestivals, ambachtelijke tradities, Roman churches, kabeltochtjes bij Le Mont-Dore and Super-Besse. A special train takes you trhough the landscape and of course there are natuurlijk worden de lokale sportieve krachten gemeten tijdens jeu de boules competities. The well known "route des fromages" brings you langs famous regional cheeses like the Bleu d' Auvergne, and the pastures of the Salers cow.
The region is also stunning during during the winter. Put on your sneeuwschoenen et visit the chamois. The Massif Cantalien has excellent skiing possibilities with facilities for alpine- and crosscountryskiers. Well known areas are Le Mont-Dore, Super-Besse and Super-Lioran. Chateau de Tautal Bas is situated in de middle, at a convenvient 40 minutes drive.

Not far from Tautal Bas you will find a covered swimming pool (Riom-es-Montagnes), a lake to swim (Mauriac and Trizac), covered tennis yards (Riom-es-Montagnes), you may do rockclimbing. West of Clermont-Ferrand, direction Orcines, you will find the only bigscale attractionparc in the region. Vulcania is just renovated and dedicated to vulcanos.
Of course it is always wonderfull to read a good book "chez vous", at home at Tautal, to relax and enjoy the absolute serenity. A glass of wine, the Auvergne has one appellation de vin, may complete these moments.
